Press Release for Square Peg Alliance show
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
The Square Peg Alliance comes to St. Peters, MO and Cornerstone Festival
Nashville, TN – June 16, 2009 – The Square Peg Alliance, a group of singer-songwriters out of Nashville, TN, has scheduled two rare performances this summer.
Eight members of the Square Peg Alliance will come together for a special concert at Grace Community Chapel in St. Peters, MO on June 30th and then will play at the famed Cornerstone Music Festival in Bushnell, IL on July 1st. Singer-songwriters Andrew Osenga, Ben Shive, Andrew Peterson, Randall Goodgame, Jill Phillips, Eric Peters, Jeremy Casella and Andy Gullahorn have performed together on many occasions, but these shows mark the first time for all of them to share the stage together outside of Nashville.
“We all travel the country individually playing our music for a living,” says Andy Gullahorn, “but we're very excited to finally be hitting the road together.”
In early 2006, this group of friends with mutual admiration for each other’s work formed the Square Peg Alliance in an effort to provide support and encouragement to each other.
"Finding an audience for your music, with or without a record deal, is such a grassroots effort," says Ben Shive, another member of the group, "and it helps to know you're not in it alone. Especially if you're trying to go against the flow, like I think we all are. We're trying to make music that's vulnerable and lyrically rich, and that doesn't get you on the radio or make you a millionaire. So the Square Peg Alliance is our way of saying to the world, 'Hey, if you want something honest, here we are.' And it's our way of saying to each other, 'You're not crazy and you're not alone.'"
After the group's formation, they started building a web presence and began playing free local shows together in Nashville. On many occasions they have performed to support charities and benefits, as well as to celebrate new releases from members of the group.
“We’re here first of all because we genuinely like each other,” says Gullahorn. “In the process, though, we’ve found that there are things we can accomplish together that we couldn’t do on our own. I think it's cathartic in a way for us to be a part of something that's not about business models, investments, or returns. We’re simply a group of friends who love each other’s music. I hope that's evident when we're on stage together.”
The show in St. Peters, MO will be on Tuesday June 30th at Grace Community Chapel. The concert starts at 7 pm and tickets cost $5. Call (636) 970-1311 for more information. Square Peg Alliance night at the Cornerstone Festival in Bushnell, IL starts at 6 PM at the Gallery Stage on Wednesday July 1st. For more information visit http://www.cornerstonefestival.com
